I am Julie in Warrenton VA. I was brought up in England and my Mother used to have chickens in her back yard. Don't see that much these days but I hope to see more people have chickens.
I am about to build our first chicken house and hope to purchase about six chickens as pets for my young chidren. I also want fresh eggs and wish to know where my eggs are coming from. I recently watched Food Inc and was upset and livid watching how the poor chickens and cows etc are treated. I have wanted a few chickens for a while, and now after watching Food Inc I have decided to get some this Spring. I have found a farm locally that sells chicks in Culpepper. I am looking at Marans, Plymouth Rock and maybe some Lavender silkies. I am also planting a vegetable garden this year. I'm looking forward to getting started but we need this record snow we have had in DC to melt first! I hope to do a webpage and show our progress and our pets in the coming months. Thanks.
