Hi everyone! I'm just starting out with chickens, and have two separate small flocks right now. My first set is two white leghorn hens, two delaware pullets, and a white leghorn rooster whom I am intending to free range once they've spent a few more nights in their coop, and a small set of 4 silver laced bantam cochins(3 pullets and one cockerel).
The three leghorns were given to me by a friend because she doesn't like white chickens, and then I picked up the two delaware and two of the cochin pullets after that, but I was completely charmed by the cochins and had to go back for two more. I ended up getting a cockerel too, just because he had such a neat personality.
Darn you chicken math!
So anyways, I have a total of 9 at the moment, and will probably have a few more once they all start laying, and I can prove to my hubby how awesome they are.
In addition to the chickens, I also own three saint bernards, and four cats. I also have a 19 month old daughter and am due right on christmas with our second baby, so we definitely have a busy yard and household.
