Your experiences with injured chickens goes a long way in helping you plan to avoid that for your own chickens. Access to a vet who is even willing to treat them at all is an ideal situation. Many of us have only BYC to help in case of problems.

Welcome to BYC! Raising chickens is pretty easy. A lot is learn as you go. I grew up watching my mom take care of them so I have a pretty good idea of what is going on. I just got my own last year and so far so good. If my chickens survived the winter of 2014/15 in New England then I think they can survive dying. lolol
