Hello! New member here, I've owned chickens for about 4-5 months now. I have 24 chickens total, separated into two different flocks. I have 9 hens, which are around 22 weeks old, in a large setup in the back field, which consists of a 12x12 coop attached to a 10x22 run. They just started laying this past week and I'm super excited. I have another coop built into the corner of my barn, which is around 8x8, with a door cut into the front of the barn for access to a 16x10 run. The other 13 hens and two roosters live in there. They are only around 13-14 weeks old. One of the roosters will soon be moving in with the nine 9 hens in the other area. It has went really smoothly and has been fun. My only issue is that my wife says I spoil the hens way too much. For the winter I buy them fresh produce from the market to supplement their diet. I also feed them meal worms a couple times a week, and they love them. They love turnip greens too. Well, Hello and I look forward to talking chickens with all of you.

Oh, and my hens/pullets breeds are Buff Orpington, Red Star, Cuckoo Maran, Easter Egger, Barred Rock, and Black Australorp. I have one little Barred Rock cockerel named Kevin, and an unknown cockerel which is black (green in sunlight), with some red feathers mixed in with the black. His name is Russo.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC and Happy Holidays!

Welcome to BYC. I'm glad you decided to join our flock. Which part of Arkansas are you from? I was born in Hot Springs, and even after my parents moved away, I used to return and spend every summer, all summer, and every holiday with my grandparents there, and I still love the Hot Springs area. You have some very good layers in your flock. Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed; extremely hardy, calm and gentle, and excellent layers of large, brown eggs; and Red Stars (Red Sex Links) are egg laying machines. You should get loads of eggs from those girls. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

South Arkansas near Magnolia. We go to Hot Springs occasionally and it is a great place to visit, and I'm sure it would be a great place to live as well. My Red-Stars are a little over 20 weeks and I was so surprised that they started laying last week with it being so cold....I think they are my favorites, and they are really sweet birds.
