You'll love chickens!

I'm sure I will love chickens but to be perfectly honest, I used to be afraid of them! I used to refuse to get out of my car at a friends house because the chickens were out. A recent experience seems to have rid me of my fears (of chickens, water, flying, and bridges anyway). I even "baby sat" some 2 month old chickens a few months ago. They were both very friendly and tame. Not at all like the chickens my grandfather had when I was 8! We use alot of eggs at my house so I've been toying with the idea of getting a few laying hens. Orginally, I was just going to get some pullets from the local feed shop (mostly mixes). But after doing research, I've decided I will likely want to breed and show in the future(couple years?), so I would like to find some quality birds to start off.
Until we move out of city limits, my coop will have to be portable. I am planning on making the dome-shaped cattle panel type tractors I've seen. And I'm actually designing it to be easy to add on.

I, too, did my research using this site. I get my little ladies this week (hooray!) and feel completely prepared thanks to BYC. Bookmark/subscribe to threads that have useful information so you can refer to them quickly.

And watch out for chicken math! I was only going to get 6 birds until I saw the pictures of baby chicks posted by all the "inconsiderate"

people on this forum! Don't "those" people know I have no will power when it comes to cute little things? Now I'm up to 9 chicks with a visit to Tractor Supply planned so I can maybe get more.
