(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

My kids have taken chickens in our local 4-H program for many years. A variety of bantams to raising broilers. They aged and can no longer be in 4-H so I wanted to get the type birds I wanted to raise.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Currently I have 5 hens and one rooster.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Rooster and 3 of the hens are Buckeyes, my main interest when I decided to get some. I also have 2 brown red ameraucan’s. I also have 2 leftover bantams from the kids projects that are living out there life here.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

While researching coops and breeds and now use it first when I have a question, great resource!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

As a kid we raised many types of animals and some day I hope to have the same on my place. I am a wanna be antiquer but mainly purchase items from my childhood I always wanted. Have a small garden and love to scrollsaw when I have time, but that need for time always seems out of reach. Lol

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I am married to the best wife a fella could ask for and we have 4 kids, 4 dogs, 2 cats and a rabbit. They all keep me busy. I am work in the computer field, have always considered myself as a nerd.

Greetings and welcome to BYC Mike! So glad you joined us. Even though you've got years of experience already, there's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. I'm guessing you may be able to add to it! :thumbsup Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

Oh, if you haven't done so already, PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. I recommend at least your state as most folks won't be able to figure out where if you put anything more specific (county, town, street, etc) by itself. Old folks like me :old will never remember & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!

Welcome to byc! I am glad you are getting to raise the kind of birds you want to raise now. Everyone in my family has gotten to the point where they have their own birds, so to speak. I still care for all of them though. Well, my wife helps if I have to work early or late.
