Hello there, not only am I new to BYC I am new to chicken keeping. I have 7 EE hens and they are wonderful, hatched June 20th and they started laying about 3 weeks ago. We are now getting 3 to 4 eggs a day and they are beautiful. Looking forward to adding to my flock this spring, would like to add 5 to 7 more girls. I would like any advice as to adding new girls to the flock and any suggestions as to what breeds lay well throughout the winter and are pretty docile?
I have a insulated 8X5 coop with an attached/roofed chicken run 8X10, the coop has 6 nesting boxes in the "upstairs". Suggestions how much to "add on"to the chicken house and yard in order to increase my flock please.

I like to oil paint, train my dogs (will be competing in our first obedience rally in March), I like to compete in Sprint Triathlons

I have been married for 17 years, we have a daughter, and twin boys, a red heeler, a yellow lab and a curly tailed cat. I am a massage therapist and yes I love my job!
