Summerland, BC
Good afternoon :)
My name is Corrina, and not only am I a new member to this group, but I am also soon going to be a brand new backyard chicken cooper keeper. :)

A little bit about myself;
  • I currently live in Summerland, BC, Canada, having just moved here in January of this year. I originally come from Vancouver Island, BC, Canada, but after spending all of last year travelling in Saskatchewan for my husband's business, we have come to settle here quite happily. We love BC, and Summerland has turned out to be the home we've been in search of for our future retirement plans. :)
  • My husband owns and runs his own drywall company, with plans to expand into starting a home-built shed business, and I am the office manager for his company, as well as a medical transcriptionist for 4 hospitals within Canada in which I am able to work for from home.
  • I am also an avid canner of just 3 years, but thoroughly enjoy the process of both water bath & pressure canning. Coming to Summerland has kicked that hobby up to full gear already, because of all the farmers markets & farms in the area; nevermind next year, when I get this place completely set up for my own veggie farming. :)
I've been wanting some chickens for a few years now, but it's just been this year that we've finally found ourselves feeling like we are where we are meant to be. Things have been falling into place for us in so many ways, and with a recent opportunity to get 3 broody hens & their newly-hatching chicks from the same flock, it was definitely the right time to add that part of my dreams into our current situation. :) Which is one of the main reasons I will be found here ... to ask questions, get advice, and help me learn how to be a good owner to the ladies and their little ones. :) I look forward to 'meeting' everyone and learning through you.

Thanks for accepting me into the group, and I hope to one day be able to share some of my own experience with others.

You will love it here!

I do quite a bit of water canning for jellies and fruits. I have a pressure canner but have not used it yet!

Hopefully this summer when tomatoes are lower in price
I'm looking forward to doing tomato juice this summer when the tomatoes drop, as well. :) I like to have a beer with tomato juice on a hot day, but hate the tinny taste from the cans they are always sold in, so figure making my own juice shouldn't be too difficult. :)
