Hi, my name is Debbie, I live in Souther Ca. in the High Desert. I've been raising chickens for a couple years now, but still manage to be stump by some issues with my girls. I have 20 chickens 3 different ages, and a variety of breeds. The first group I bought they are 3 years old now, the second group I bought as day old chicks, they are little over a year old now, and lastly, last year one of my girls decided she wanted to set, she hatched 7 chicks. She and another hen joined her in taking really good care of the chicks for about 5 weeks, then they just abandoned them and would no longer take care of them or protect them. So I had to build another coop, complete with totally enclosed yard and keep the chicks there till they were about 4 months old, then the hassle of getting the other hens to quit picking on them when I turned them out to roam free like the others. I'm clad to be here, alot of really good and usefull info from others.
