New member desiring some advice!

Thank you so much for the encouragement. That was my thought on the buffs too, perhaps I can eyeball them if we decide on the 4week olds. Gotta talk to the hubs, as I'd inquired and gotten approval for getting just buffs in July. I have a ton of chicken wire that I'd purchased when we needed to keep our dogs in the yard. 3 sides are fenced, the other is a retaining wall with some plants, then the wire. I believe we also probably have enough osb we could build a little something. I appreciate your input so much!!! Off to go do research!

chicken wire only keeps chickens in, it doesn't keep anything out, dogs, cats, predators of any nature. You need 1/2 inch. Hardware cloth. Please read the threads on predator proofing.

Most of the hatcheries are sold out for many weeks of the popular breeds . My Pet Chickens will allow you to purchase as little as 3 (can be assorted) and you can pay a little extra to have them as pullets instead of roosters. They may be sold out of some kinds too but, you can easily check on their website.

I'm sorry, let me clarify, not RIR, they got mixed with New Hampshire reds. We were going to do a full enclosure/run with wood panels and a locking door, and a roofed top using chicken wire for the run, but use something more sturdy for the coop itself, such as the cloth. I am home all day and have 2 dogs who "protect" the yard while I'm home. Does this sound sturdy enough?
