Hi all, glad to be part of your online community!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We've had chickens for two years. I've just started breeding and incubating my own eggs.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I have 18 - one adult rooster (named Russell Crowe) and six adult hens in my main coop. Also have 11 chicks, of which 2 are now 7 weeks old and the others are 2 weeks old.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Australorp, isa brown

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Their personalities. Sustainability (consuming scraps). Knowing they have a happy free-range life. Producing eggs for family.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Golf, running, volunteering at local country fire service.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I live in South Australia on half an acre property with my wife and soon to be daughter (September). We have a bordercollie who is petrified of the chickens lol. I work as an Environmental Manager.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

Found BYC through google. I wanted to meet likeminded people and learn more about caring for my chooks! Some photos of flock below :)

Hello! Welcome to BYC! Nice looking birds! Have fun here, it is a great place to learn and have fun!

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Gorgeous chicks, chickens, and border collie! Thank you for sharing!

We have a border collie, and she's a huge reason we can let ours free-range as our property borders a forest on the back side, and farmer's fields on the others. She keeps the riff raff out of our yard.

Congrats on your soon-to-be-here daughter! 🥳
