This is a great site and it really seems like a great community!

I am finalizing the design for my first coop and have a question:

Should I build the egg boxes inside the coop with an access panel to get the eggs from the outside or build the whole box so it is attached to the outside?

The two issues I would see is whether you want to save space on the inside and possibly temperature. We live in Missouri building it inside might keep them warmer in the winter.

What other considerations are there?

Thanks!

Hi! :frow Welcome to BYC! Depends on the size of your coop and number of chickens. They only go into nest boxes to lay eggs. You don’t want them sleeping in there.

You might want to post your question in the coop design forum to get the attention of some who like to help with this. Maybe I can draw some help to you here by calling on @aart or @jthornton .
I plan on reading their threads again when we build our new shed coop in the spring.
Happy building!

Hello and welcome to BYC! So happy you have decided to join our community. This is a great place to learn and share your chicken adventures. There is a coop design & building thread on this site that has a wealth of information. I think placement of nest boxes depends on the size of your coop and personal preferences. Good luck with your build.
