new member fixing to get in to chickens

My wife and I had chickens ducks guinea's pot belly pigs sheep back in the mid 90's, Where going to try again with some chickens She wants either plymouth rock or road island reds not sure which would be better to start with. We live in Surry va:)

I'd probably check out the feed stores in my area, see which one you like and when/whether they will get chicks this spring, and pick out what you want there. Most likely they will have both breeds as well as some others. From reading on here, it seems more likely you'll get calm, comparatively easy to handle chickens with rocks. They are individuals, of course, but what the hatcheries call Rhode Island Reds seem to be more prone to being mean and attacking each other. (Hatcheries do some cross breeding for egg production.)

You might check on here to see if there is a real breeder in your area and talk to them, too.
