New member here, although I've frequently haunted the forums to learn all I can over the last year or so lol. My younger sister introduced me to the site, and I regularly use it as a reference, it tends to be so much better than the library lol. She and I have both learned quite a bit from the various threads and forums.
I currently have a mixed flock, which I started last spring. Of my chicks I purchased last spring, the hens I ended up with 2 Ameracaunas (at least I'm pretty sure they are, they were supposed to be anyway lol.) 2 pretty golden Easter Eggers, the likes of which I've never seen their color before. 2 Silver Laced Wyandots, 2 Barred Rocks, and 4 White Leghorns. Unfortunately sometime earlier this year one of my Barred Rock hens went missing, I was rather disappointed because she laid such pretty deep brown eggs. My other one lays almost pink eggs, which I've found unusual.
This past spring I purchased some more chicks, of those I have 4 Isa Brown pullets, 6 white Silkies (unknown genders although we've been trying to guess lol), a white splash? Ameracauna cockrel, a white Ameracauna pullet and a tan (buff?) colored Ameracauna pullet. I also managed to get a few Cornish X birds, I think they're all pullets based off their combs, one is still pretty young, but the other two I got when our local TSC got their seasonal chicks in. One of them is rather stupid... it seems to be shrinking? (Didn't think that was possible but it doesn't seem to like to eat much anymore...) The other my sister thinks may be a Freedom Ranger that slipped in from the hatchery. It is much smarter than the other one, and much healthier. May have just lucked out though and gotten one that wasn't "retarded" lol. I just purchased 4 adult Ameracaunas, a black rooster, a lavender hen, and 2 black hens. The rooster was a reserve champion in show last year. All 3 hens are currently sitting, and I'm excited to see how many chicks I get from them. I also accidentally ended up with a half dozen of the American Bresse eggs from the guy I purchased them from because he'd put them under one of the hens and when he went to retrieve them she would NOT let him lol. I'm hoping they also hatch and that I will get good starter stock from them.
My sister insisted I finally join the site so that I might learn more about my crazy mixed flock. Sorry such a long intro lol.
