Hello from Arkansas!! I’m new to raising chickens. I am super happy to be a part of this group.
(1) when did you first get chickens?
I’ve had my babies right at 8 weeks.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have a total of 20 birds.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have 16 Guinea keets, 2 Icelandic hens (looking to get at least 2 more hens and possibly a rooster), and 2 roosters that I think are Colombian Rock.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
We initially wanted them to control the tick problem in our yard. However, we have fallen in love with watching them. They, individually and as different breeds, have such unique characteristics and personalities.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love going to church, spending time with my grandbabies, camping, hiking, and hunting with my sweetie, and spending time with my kids.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am a retired teacher. My partner and I have a total of 6 children (3 each). I have 13 grandkids and my first great grandson arriving soon. My partner and I also have 3 dogs, 2 fish, a horse, and 12 mules.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I came across BYC when I was concerned about Little Butt, my super tiny Guinea keet. He/she is about 1/3 the size of the rest of its siblings and I was worried.
