Sadly, no McDonald tartan apparel. I do have a tartan Christmas tree stocking, just a little thing to hang on the tree.

You sure do get around FL when you come over here! We'll have to stay in touch here and the next time you come over, maybe we can meet for a chat.

There are so many tartans in any Clan to choose from, it's often very difficult to make a choice. The MacDonald (which is the correct spelling BTW) Clan being such a huge clan, have over 30 tartans. Yes it would be really fun to meet up for a coffee, and talk about Scots and chickens, which we haven't really touched on yet. Do you have a huge flock?

No, not a huge flock. I've had as many as 19, currently I have 10. The flock is made up of 3 Barred Plymouth Rocks, 3 Red Sex Links, 2 Speckled Sussex, 1 Rhode Island Red, and 1 Easter Egger...all hens, no rooster. That's a good number for us because it's big enough for all the eggs we need plus a few for the neighbors. They have plenty of room in the coop and run so no problems with overcrowding. Plus with just 10, it gives me a chance to really know their personalities and habits.

I am thinking of getting a few more in the spring, partly to enjoy chicks again and partly to try a couple other breeds. Always fun to think about trying something new. I've also thought of trying a couple of geese, have you ever had them?

Well I had five (all descended from feral chickens) I suspect all are bantam related. Thee were layers (Henrietta, and two black and orange, Henny Penny and Chicken Little) and the other two, another all black (Chris P) that was given to us as a rescue chick, and a Red one (Tikka). Tikka developed wry neck, and we've been nursing her back to health, when the other morning we caught Tikka trying to crow. So we may have a rooster on our hands. I always said "NO ROOSTERS", because we live in a very quiet residential neighbouhood.

So now I'm in a quandary with what to do. We don't want to send her/him back to the farm whence she/he came, as that would essentially be a death sentence, but keeping her/him may mean crowing every day. Now my wife brings home a one week old chick that she found at her daughter's house near death, that older chickens were pecking unmercifully. it's head and wings were all bloodied and there was almost no life left in it. We have been nursing this little chick (Peeps) back to life and health, and it is responding fabulously. So now we have six chickens and we've run out of coop space. Gotta get out there and build some new coops soon! So that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

Never had geese, probably need too much space, and probably make too much noise for my neighbourhood. Our problem is we'd have at least one of everything if we had the space (like a farm) we'd have chickens and rabbits and goats. As it is, I tell people my house looks like the staging area for Noah's Ark! So we have to keep a tight reign on it. That's my lot!
