I live in Central CA. Close to Modesto/ Stockton, the Central Valley area.

I used to live in Modesto.
I wanted a farm but land was just too expensive so I bought a house in a subdivision with a large backyard.
Planned to get chickens, but I lost my job and ended up selling the house a year later before I could enjoy 'backyard chickens.'
I finally found my farm and have my chickens (among other things) and definitely enjoy it.
You were fortunate to have a g'mother to teach you all her chicken-keeping wisdom!
