Sounds like he has been someone's house chicken. He may have always been the ONLY chicken around and is used to being around people and treated as a member of the family. My friend has 5 bantam chickens in her home and they watch TV with her and everything else. You may find him to be great company while you recuperate. There is a thread on here called "people with house chickens." you may be surprised to find out how many really do this.

Go over to the Colorado board. DK had some SLW pullets for sale (I think she's in the metro area).

There is also a bird swap in Brighton in 2 weeks if you can't find anything sooner.

You wouldn't happen to know where in Brighton it's happening, do you? I actually live near there and I know they used to have swaps at the Co-Op/Ace way back when I was a kid, but I'm not sure they do that anymore.
