Hi from Texas, we have 5 boar goats, 1 donkey 35 hens, 4 roosters, 1 turkey, and 10 guineas. Glad to be here. I have a question about guineas. I have had chickens for a long time now but I am new to guineas. I have 10 guineas 3 months old they run free during the day and we put them up at night, the flock has picked one female out that the rest of the flock does not like. They will not let her into the coop at night and peck at her when she tries to join the rest of the flock. Is this common?? How do I stop this behavior?? I got them all at 1 day old and they have been all together since.
I don't know if it's common, but it certainly happens. All my guineas were raised together since they were just a few days old, and they also singled out one of the girls. They let her roost in the loafing shed with them at night, but they all cuddle up close and won't let her too close, and if she gets near to the flock during the day, our male chases her away. She's gotten very good at foraging on her own, and she loves to hang out with the goats in the goat yard. As long as your hen is getting the food and water she needs and the other birds aren't injuring her, she'll probably be fine. But it does look pretty sad sometimes when they get singled out like that...
