Hartford county area. I've wanted chickens for a long time and finally decided during COVID that it was time and my kids were old enough at that point.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We got our first chickens about 3 years ago.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Currently we have 4 adult hens and we hatched 17 out of 18 eggs this spring.

(3) What breeds do you have?

The hens are 2 Isa browns and 2 black sex links. The babies we hatched are barnyard mixes from someone local. They had Easter eggers, olive eggers, wyandotte, silkie, maybe light brahma and others.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

They are pretty funny to watch. But ideally the fresh eggs. My wife loves them though, more than I expected.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

2 young children lol. Cooking, gardening, crafting; my wife loves her cricut.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

My wife and I have a 9 year old boy and 7 year old daughter. We have a leopard gecko named Oreo. I'm a corporate chef and she's a practice manager for a non profit.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

Mostly from Google. I've been lurking and using this site for research and information for about 3-4 years. I figured it was time to join, especially after hatching chicks. Definitely need some insight on genders.

Welcome to BYC!

I used to live in Connecticut, in Middlesex, Hartford, and Tolland counties. Pretty state. I miss seeing the old houses.
