Welcome to BYC!!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. When I went outside this morning to fill the bird feeder,
just a tall plastic cup with handle (that I tie to a branch) a hawk was sitting atop the telephone pole. As soon as it saw me it flew off and hasn't been back. I did NOT harass it. Guess it just thought I was a bigger bird.

A few years ago I saw crows mobbing a hawk in a tree. It left very quickly. Have also seen a huge ??? bird swoop down from my garage roof and then fly up into the sky. Have never seen such a huge bird before - no idea what is was. It did have a few black feathers toward it's tail.

:welcome :frow I'm also from Florida. I have lost my share of birds in the past to aerial and ground predators. Now I have nice large covered pens for my birds. No more free ranging. I do have electric wires around my coops and pens, good heavy duty netting covering my pens and concrete under the gates all due to losses from predators in the past. Good luck with your birds and have fun...

If you ever get up to my area we have a farm swap twice a month, stop in and say hi. We just had our fist swap for the month yesterday and have another in two weeks.
