Porpoise Hork
Chirping
Hi all,
Figured I'd make an account and introduce myself. My wife conned me into getting chickens nearly 2 years ago. We started out with 4 Speckled Sussex, and a pre-fab coop. Since then well things have expanded a touch. I'm now up to 17 girls, or possibly 16 and a rooster. The jury is still out on that one and that's one of the reasons I'm here is to get a little assistance with that. Currently in the flock I have a blue, black copper, and black maran, Easter egger, naked neck, buff brahma, salmon faverolle, 3 bearded silkies, golden seabrite, Japanese bantam (that will run across the yard to me wanting me to pick her up whenever I go out side) , sapphire Olive Egger, ameraucana and some mixed breeds...
Anyway on to the show I guess. Pardon the paper plates, they are from today's breakfast.
Here's the main coop, the red/white refab is what I started with, and will end up taking out in the next few months.
The large house was originally the run for them but as my wife and daughters kept adding birds, thus the need for more space became a necessity. So it's now the main coop area and is 9.5' X 8' X 10' tall, and wrapped in 1/4" hardware cloth. Then in an effort to have actual grass in my back yard I sectioned off about 1/2 of the yard for them and added the fence welded wire fence. The back section along the wood fence uses T-Posts but the rest is 4X4 and 2X4's.
Inside the Coop area
And two of the three mixed breed birds, The red one one I am not sure. I hatched these two out along with their sister (grey feathered one) in the second pic below. The mother of these three is an easter egger, but the rooster could be one of several types, of which I am not sure of. When they hatched out these three all had mis-aligned pin feathers on the wings, with the 4th (now re-homed) one's feathers being the only that all lined up. They are 20 weeks old now and all act the same as every other pullet I have raised so far. No hint of this bird, trying to trying to be dominant at all to the hatch-mates, or any of the other birds, no crowing, and has always carried itself just like her sisters. She is just as flighty as the other two as most pullets tend to be until they start to lay.
Any way that is the flock and my setup. Future plans are to extend the roosting area in the large coop house, and replace the pre-fab with an extension to the coop area and move the automatic door to the open up on the side closer to the back fence.
Thanks in advance for the assist on this one bird as well.
