Hi all, new member Scott here. We have a completely confusing bird situation.

My family are new to chicken husbandry and are looking to learn and share. We have two flocks based on age. We started with our older flock as chicks from Rural King back in February. It contained 2 Isa Brown, 2 Brahmas, 2 Black Australothorp, 2 Americauna's. Well, we lost a brahma within a couple of days, and our dog killed a americauna when it was a couple of months old. One of our Black Austrlathorp pullets was actually a rooster, and the other was a Barred Rock pullet(which Rural king wasn't even selling then). So out of this batch, 5 hens, and a rooster.

Second flock was bought mail order and we got it at the end of April. It had 2 barred rock, a black australothorp (to make up for the surprise rooster) and an americauna (to replace the one the dog killed). It also contained 4 Rouen duck pullets (one of which died and was replaced by two Kakai campbells from Rural King by my wife and daughters)

The two flocks now share a coop and large run, but the 2nd group of chickens flock with the ducks and not the other chickens. The rooster was a little protective of his original flock and would go after the new flock, until we shook things up a bit. He has been fine since, but the flocks aren't integrated.

Already have three of the girls laying and a fairly well behaved rooster.

Scott
