My name is Charity. My husband, Dallas, and I recently stated a hobby farm in Columbus.
We have had chickens for 1 1/2 years. Through the first three flicks we learned a ton of lessons. Two left from those flocks.
How many chickens do you have right now?

We have 16 hens, 12 chickies (4 of those we hatched ourself a week ago) and 1 rooster. They are in a large coop converted from a goat house and they have a nice sized covered run.

Our rooster is a cream legbar. We had 1 olive egger, 3 Rhode Island reds, 3 California whites, 2 Plymouth rocks, and 1 buff Orpington. We added 6 adopted laying golden comets. We have 8 week old chicks: 2 sapphire gems, 2 Americanas, and 4 Easter eggers. The freshly home hatched are 1 cream legbar/California white and 3 cream legbar/olive eggers.

We got them initially for eggs. We found out that they are fun to watch and have such different and fun personalities.

On our hobby farm we also have 3 ducks, 3 rabbits, bees...and let’s not forget the 2 dogs! 2 year old Great Dane (Waylon) and 7 month old English Bulldog (Happy). We have a farm stand. We offer eggs, cookies, breads, crackers, plant starts, and produce (soon); as well as canned items. Making salsa, pasta sauce, preserves...etc is a good time (no sarcasm notes LOL).

Dallas and I got married the first day of spring this year after a 3 1/2 year courtship. My kids are grown and out and having kids of their own. I am a nurse but can’t work or drive anymore due to seizures (started 1 1/2 years ago) so I have time to do all of these things (including the new 30’ x 50’ garden going in) . Good thing is, I can work at my own pace and take breaks when I need to. I don’t go farther than our 1 acre pasture so if I have a seizure, I don’t have far to walk once I recover to get back to the house.

I get on google to enter my chicken questions and this site is always there. I have always found useful information so I decided to join this community.
