Hi All,

My wife and I started our chicken adventure over 2 years ago with Australorpes and Barred Rocks. I have actually come to enjoy the chickens more than the dog. We raised our small brood of 12 from day old chicks and wanted to expand but, were limited on space. Past 3 months ago we moved to Kentucky and have a nice farm to grow our brood. We now have expanded to about 80 chicks, pullets, and laying hens. We have Australorpes, Barred Rocks, Black Copper Marans, Leghorns (our velociraptors), Jubille Orpingtons (All Mine!), Rhode Island Reds, and Welsummers.

We have done a lot of learning through trial and error and of course reading post from BYC. Our hope is to have a nice 100 chickens in the making by the end of the year and continue growing our flock. Thanks for all the posts...they have been a source of knowledge for us and we will start posting more often. All of our chickens range freely including our chicks. We have built a 20 x 20' area that we deem the playpen so they can start their pecking and scratching.

Cheers!

FH

Welcome to BYC!

Sounds like you are enjoying your chicken keeping! This is the place to be when you own poultry.

Good luck in building up your flock. Make yourself at home here and welcome to our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like you are going to have a wonderful flock!

Welcome to BYC! You have a great flock. It's been awhile since I had that many chickens. Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed as they are very hardy, gentle and calm, and great layers of large, brown eggs. Good luck with your flock.

Awesome!! 80 chickens is amazing! Where in KY are you? I just started my own little flock just this week, but I live in city limits in Louisville...hence my tiny flock!! I hope you reach your goal of 100 by years end!! I too am starting with Barred Rocks and Easter Eggers!!
