Hi eveybody, my husband and I are newbies at this, know about dogs, cats and fish but chickens not so much. Our kids all grew up and left home LOL and my husband retired so now we are going to raise chickens, We picked up 8 Isa Browns and 4 Araucanas on sat. Went out today to get the wood to convert a shed to a coop, both of us are very excited to start this and would love any suggestions !

! Happy you joined the chicken universe! BYC is a great place to learn. Make sure you check out the Coops thread below. Have fun and enjoy your birds! One suggestion on the coop: 4 sq.ft/bird is recommended for the coop size and 10 sq. ft/bird in the run. Also, use hardware cloth instead of chicken wire! Good luck!

Here is the Learning Center where you can get information on chicken care and upkeep:

You'll find a lot of inspiration here under the coops tab. Be sure to start a thread under Coop&Run thread. We all love seeing the conversions if you'll be taking pics. Have fun, chickens are so much fun!
