Hello everyone...what a great informative forum I have stumbled on! I am looking for info on chickens, building a coop, other birds, really anything I may add to my little hobby farm. I've always had horses and have done alot of "horsey" things throughout my life. I "downsized" and brought 2 of my miniature stallions with me back to Michigan when I retired a few years ago. I was born and raised here but left the state after high school and ended up on vacation/living in the south for over 40 years in SW Florida and NW Louisiana. I'm probably one of the few that retire and head North instead of South but my immediate family still live here and this is where I decided I needed to be. It's too hot down there anymore for me so, let it snow!
I have 2 sons and 6 grandkids...the oldest is in Naples, FL and the other is in NW Louisiana. I love to garden and have been working on just over 4 acres with a pond and a very modest little new home, getting it landscaped and looking decent. I am not used to having to pause for winter and mud and waiting to get out in the yard again to plant. I guess it makes the spring so much more special when your perennials and trees turn green and flowers finally appear.
I will be looking for ideas on coop building, chicken breeds and fowl in general. I really like the idea of an emu .... maybe... maybe not .... Nigerian dwarf goats are another animal I really would like to have. Looks like this may be the right place for some valuable help and advice. Thanks for reading and give me a shout if you feel like it.
