Thought I'd take a minute to introduce myself so bare with me.

Live in Roanoke Rapids,NC . currently but planning on moving out into the sticks real soon.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I have never raised chickens before, but I did have a pet rooster once as a child. I swear that thing was huge and thought he was a house pet. He was all white (if memory serves me) and very large. He would make a break for the house if he ever caught the door open. Funniest Chicken story I have: that same rooster stuck his head through the dog's leash once and inadvertantly walked around with him for a while.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I currently do not own any chickens. I will be moving into the country in the next month or so and have been building a coop and run in my head for over a month now.

(3) What breeds do you have?

N/A

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Searching for chicken faq's online and also was recommended from an online bulletin board.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I'm a big kid(at heart atleast), so I still play video games, fish and hunt (when I can) garden . read, watch movies. etc.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Married going on 9 years, 3 kids (all boys) one pet channel catfish , I'm a corrections officer . Most importantly I've got chickens on the brain. I can't stop thinking how it will be after I move and can start raising a flock of my own. Appreciate any knowledge anyone would care to share and love talking about almost anything.

You've certainly come to the right place to learn about chickens and to join in the community of chicken folks! BYC is a great place to gather information and share YOUR own observations. I first came to BYC to learn about building a coop, too, but I have also discovered BYC is the best place to come when I've got a problem (by not checking BYC first, usually) so I learned how to fix what I did wrong.

Plus I've developed a great many friends I've never met. Also a few I have managed to meet - surprising how many folks local to me are BYC members. I'm sure it's not going to be all that different for you.
