Hey everyone, Blake here, new member from Nova Scotia Canada. I'm just getting into keeping chickens and keep coming across this forum with all of my Google searches so seems like a great place to join up. My family (wife, 3 kids and I) and I live on a small rural property with our 2 dogs and 3 (indoor) cats. The place was my first house purchase, that we've used as a rental property for the last 8 years and have decided to move back to. So lots of work cleaning up and repairing after terrible tenants, we're trying to make it feel more like a home by adding a little to the place. We've been in more of a city setting for the last 8 years where we weren't allowed to have any "farm animals" so it's nice to be back in the country where there's less oversight and more freedom to do as we please.

We've decided we want to start raising some small farm animals on our little half acre property, starting with some chickens. This week we picked up 7 Bantam Buff Brahma chicks (couple days old), we're thinking about adding another breed to the coop as soon as we can decide what we want to get. We kind of like the idea of keeping breed lines separate, but want to keep them together in the large coop I'm building so I'm thinking of including some sort of separating option for breeding if we decide to go that route. We're also going to be picking up a dozen quail chicks later this week/early next week to keep in a smaller run.

Not really planning on meat birds, mostly layers, but we might get some meat kings down the road. I enjoy wood working so I've been re purposing old wood and random supplies left around the yard from tenants to make a coop for the chickens. Nothing fancy but it's been a fun project and should work nicely, while cleaning up the mess they've left behind. I've been working in sales for a long time, but recently laid off dues to the whole Covid mess, so keeping myself busy getting things going for the chicks.

Anyways look forward to getting to know you guys and learning my way through this new found hobby!
