I’m very new to chickens, I don’t have any yet. I’m trying to do research through many different pipelines and get some the beginning of next year. I just bought a house and want to have a couple girls around the house!

I will just say which breeds I want for my future flock. I was thinking a couple Australorps, a Buff Orpington and a Barred Rock. I have heard that those have good temperaments and are good for the cold.

I like the idea of owning chickens and having some feather companions around the yard.

Some other hobbies I have are motorcycling and coding. I have two elderly dogs that stick by my side as well. One is a dachshund and the other is a Chesapeake Bay mix. I’m a real estate agent currently, but I am currently in school for Business Management.

I found out about BYC through internet research and I found a lot of good information and friendly people so I decided to sign up and join this awesome community!

Can’t wait to talk to everyone!

Good for you doing your research first! I chose my first four hens at random from what a 4-H kid was selling. All I wanted was brown egg layers. I didn't realize how many breeds lay brown.

My "flock" included a Buff Orp (she is still with me years later) and a Rhode Island Red (a beautiful girl who was killed by a mink).

Both handled the cold of north central Iowa well. Although I know from the three winters that I spent in Mpls, that Minnesota cold can be even more Bone Chilling!

Welcome to BYC! Keep soaking up knowledge (here and at school), and let us know when you get your ladies, Nick.
