Hi! I installed built am outdoor shed for my quails and they have settled down fine and females have started laying eggs. I have some question though.

1) The base of my coop is wire mesh and it is on my raised garden bed. I've propped the coop up with some bricks so there is a gap of about 10cm from the soil below. The quail droppings fall into the soil below. Does any one have ideas what I can use as a bedding below to help break down the poop and reduce the odor? Would it be fine to just let the quails poop drop down to the garden bed? I'll attach a pic of my coop. The pic is before I added bricks to prop up the coop. I've also added hay for comfort.

2) The quails have laid eggs and it is about 10 now. They kinda made a nest of their own and they only lay in 1 place so I assume that's their nest. Question is, how do I make my coop chick safe? Can I move the nest into a tray so that the chicks are contained and not get hurt or stuck in the wire mesh flooring? Should I remove all / half the eggs into an incubator instead?
