New here to the site, I'm a older woman with a lot of birds, my new turkey Elizabeth got herself caught between laying boxes and got a fairly deep cut about 1 1/2 x 3 inches on top of her right wing, anyone tell me what I can and can't put on a turkey cut. Any advise would be appreciated, until I can get her to my Vets

Do you have a picture of the wound?

Blue Kote is good for disinfecting wounds and stops other hens from picking at it. Wear gloves though - it stains everything!

Hi and welcome to BYC! The Learning Centre is a great place to start off as it has loads of info on anything chicken. Joining your state thread (just type your state in the search box) will also put you in contact with other BYC members in your area.

Bathing the cut in a mild saline solution and then applying iodine or some other antiseptic would help if you do not have blue kote.

I've never raised turkeys but would guess the same treatment you would use on chickens for a cut would be the same? It's helpful you have a vet that will see poultry, it seems so many vets don't.

Hope your turkey heals quickly.
