I guess the best way to get started is to answer the questions directly:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I have had chickens on and off since I was 4 years old. This time around has been 6 years. My flock started with 10 and has ranged from 8 to 70ish (chicken math and predators make it hard to count).
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I think I have 56 now that we had a hen go broody and filled the incubator. I have another broody hen sitting on 6 that are due next week.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Rhode Island Red, White Leghorn, Easter Egger, Australorp, Barred Rock, and every combination there of.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Eggs! The love they give and the way they help with insect control. I especially love it when I have a hen standing right by me when I am working in the flower beds waiting for me to uncover a bug.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I make greeting cards in most of my spare time, I like to cross stich, make jelly, and grow vegetables
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We live in-between Dallas and Texarkana. I am married to my boss, LOL! He is co-owner of a telecom company. We are both electrical engineers. We live on 102 acres and are able to work from home. We also have 30 cattle, a couple of cats, and a dog.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
