Hi everyone! We have had chickens and geese for two or three years now, but recently lost all of our hens to a raccoon - only the rooster remains. I am looking for young, adult sized hens in a variety of breeds to rebuild my flock. Does anyone know where I can find someone selling hens within a reasonable distance?
We have seen the raccoon and have borrowed a live trap to relocate it. We've also built in security latches for the coop. We are very disappointed but understand that these things can happen if your chickens are not adequately protected - lesson learned. Feeling badly for our rooster who is all alone at this point. Bird auctions also an option if they are upcoming.

Welcome to BYC!

Oh, I am so sorry for the loss of your flock! That is just awful. Yes, these things do happen.

You might start in this thread. I believe this is the official Quebec Canada thread....

Here is the all of Canada thread as well....

Ask around in these two places and maybe you can locate someone nearby that has some hens for you. I hope you can get your lonely boy some hens soon!!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! TwoCrows gave you some great links to check out for birds, don't forget local feed stores and if you have something like CraigsList there. You might also want to check out the Predator forum for help with the racoons, www.backyardchickens.com/f/13/predators-and-pests not sure what your laws are there about relocating them or who is allowed to do it.

Best of luck finding some girls for your lonely boy. Sorry about losing your flock to that raccoon, hopefully with the adjustments and safe guarding the coop it won't happen again. ;)
