Hi there! I am a newbie chicken mom from West Palm Beach, FL. My flock currently includes 4 Buff Orpingtons and 3 Silkies (1 White, 1 Partridge, and 1 Black). This is my first time ever raising chickens. My husband built me a beautiful coop and I will learn as I go, I guess. Nice to meet you all !

Welcome, glad you have joined us and congrats on getting your own flock.

That is a beautiful coop.
It is obviously inside a fenced in enclosure, but if you do have raccoon (and almost everybody does) - make sure you either lock the flock into the coop at night or add 1/2 inch hardware cloth to the areas currently covered only with chicken wire.

Thanks for the input. We do lock them up in the coop at night, which is double latched on both doors. We also have double chicken wire around all sides for their protection. We dont have a huge raccoon issue, but I have seen some foxes in the area and a coyote or two.
