My husband and I are first time chicken parents although seasoned parents, grandparents and great grandparents. You guessed it, we are close to retirement and definitely starting on the new adventure of homesteading. We have a 15-acre property and in addition to raising chickens, and gardening, we’re planning on beekeeping for starters. We still have a lot of clearing before adding more livestock and structures.

We have 5 children, 4 girls and a son; currently have 9 grandchildren, 8 grandsons and a granddaughter; and 2 great granddaughters. We seem to be flipping the coin with each generation. 😂 We have 10 chics we’re raising, 3 Plymouth Rocks; 1 Legbar (we purchased 3 but lost two early on due pasty butts) that are 8 weeks old, and 2 Buff Orpingtons; 2 Easter Eggers; and 2 Rhode Island Reds that are 4 weeks old. We are in the process of building an 8x4’ coop with an attached 12’ run for them.

We live in the Uinta mountain area, between several lakes and beautiful, quiet surroundings. We are blessed with city water, electricity, propane, and have deer, raptors and an abundance of small critters dwelling on daily.

We enjoy and are learning a lot from your blog. Thank you for sharing your questions and experiences because we have the same ones, and the articles answer them quite nicely.
