Hello,
I am Jacob, I live in western new york. I am fairly new to chickens. I did 25 freedom rangers last summer for meat, this year our family bought 10 baby chickens. All 10 survived ended up with 9 hens and 1 roo,( who is currently missing been 2 days still hoping he comes back). We have 5 sapphire gem hens and 4 rhode island red hens and one missing in action rhode island red roo. My favorite aspect of rasing backyard chickens is just watching them peck around the yard and chase each other. Pretty excited about the eggs as well. The girls layed our first egg today, it wasn't very large but I read that's normal. Some of my other hobbies are building legos, gardening, fishing and hunting. I am married with 3 daughters, in addition to our chickens we have a dog, cat and a tortoise. We'd love to have more but are waiting until we have more space. I've been reading backyard chicken articles for years. Have a small family farm has always been a dream of mine. I quit using social media about a year ago so this seems like a nice way to connect with the chicken community.
