My name is Victoria. I got my first flock of laying hens this last spring 2022. Absolute Joy and great journey it has been so far.
I currently have 35 chickens (19 Cornish cross meat chickens, 15 Layers and 1 Rooster). I have Orpingtons, Rhode Island Reds, Plymouth Rocks, Succexs, Ameraucanas and Bantams
The best part of raising backyard chickens is they are so great to watch, very entertaining. The fresh eggs are an amazing bonus.
My other hobbies: Gardening, Reading up on new skills, cooking
We also have 5 cats that are so fun to have out with our chicks. I homeschool my 13 year old son Dominick. I also have a 7 year old son Logan and 3 older boys that have flown this mama's coop. We live on a 5 acre homestead.

Welcome to BYC!!

Welcome!! We are happy to have you here. What kind of gardening do you like to do? I love to garden.
We have hobby forums as well as the poultry ones, so if you're looking for garden inspiration or maybe fun homeschool activities, check out the hobby threads.
Which of your layers do you enjoy the most? I'm thinking of replenishing my flock and sending my older girls to a retirement coop at my Parents farm. My personal favorites at my house are the Easter Eggers and I am always paying the earthworm tax to my Australorp, Queen Emerald. I also love my sister's speckled Sussex hen, she is such a little sidekick.
