I am a new member as off yesterday and have a very interesting story as to how we ended up having backyard chickens!!
June 11th me and my family went to a carnival where there was a tiny “petting zoo”. There was a run with chickens, geese and ducks where my mum noticed an egg!! She told the people running the petting zoo so they gave her the egg and told her it was possibly fertilised.
Not thinking too much of it, we kept the egg in our bras(!!) to keep it warm incase it was a fertilised egg, we are very animal loving so thought we would give the egg a chance and bought an incubator.
On July 3rd at 11pm we hatched Jazzi!!
We knew chicks can get lonely so decided to contact nearby farms to see if they had day old chicks and got a reply from someone who said they would give us 3 chicks who they couldn’t determine the sex but we could return any males (but we are a bit bonded with them now so that probably won’t happen!!).
Here they are at around a week old: Jazzi is the almost white chick we hatched who we think is a salmon Faverolle mix, Chicko is the cheeky black chick who is a black copper maran and the other two yellow chicks are Nando and Peri, who are buff Sussex.
Those are my introductions as a new member, hope everyone likes the story!!
