New Member here and I have many questions

Hi all!!
I'm so excited to be starting my chicken journey!!!! I am extremely new to chickens and all the things that come with them. I hatched them for my senior large and small animal class at my school 3 weeks ago, I get to bring mine that have bonded with me home on Friday!! Their names are Honey, Babacaw, Choboni, and Cyanide. I will hopefully have 4 laying hens but I have a suspicion that one of my pullets may actually be a cockerel. My chicks were layed (lain?) at the same place but they are mix breeds and I have no idea what either of the parents are, all I know is that they are mighty cute and I love them lots!!! My favorite aspects are that I get to have these beautiful being in my backyard and spread more of my love. Most of my hobbies have to do with being outside because I love soaking up the sun. My family is just me an my mom, but my boyfriend and I are looking forward to raising our chickens even further rather than leaving them to other people. My boyfriend and I also have a dog but he will go nowhere near our feathery babies. I found BYC because I've been trying to figure out what breeds my chicks are and I've been trying to also use all the tells to sex my chicks without being invasive. I'm so excited to be apart of the group and I'm so excited to learn so much more than I do now!!
I keep my laying hens confined in a 1 acre run...with an auto door. My ducks and turkeys don't have an auto door but they refuse to go in their coop and I have lost some of them and they were pets. I would just say...defense is the best offense
