I have been lurking for some time, then decided to join but haven't introduced myself until now. I started keeping chickens about 2 1/2 years ago and very quickly discovered it is like eating potato chips - just go for more and more! Started with hatchery stock of many different breeds and I have now pretty much sold off all the original and I have been hatching SQ of several different types from eggs bought off of eBay. I have had incubators going pretty much since August of this last year. I am focusing now on French Black Copper Marans, Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons, Naked Necks, Mille Fleur bantam cochins, and seramas. Some of them are finally getting to the age of laying eggs.

I keep a small core group of various breeds for eggs to eat and sell as food.

I am hooked on chickens. I have to watch my budget now - food for these guys is expensive. I let them free range on our acre during the summer months, but winter has lots of snow and they are stuck in their covered run and in small portion of the yard during our long winters. When I was just raising lots of various hatchery types and selling their eggs, they were pretty much self-supporting in cost. Now....

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself instead of just lurking all the time!

Glad you joined us!

Thank you. I have learned so much from here and many other places, that I thought I would participate and share experiences and continue the learning! I enjoy my kids. And even though the number keeps growing, each one has a name and a personality that is different from the others. So much fun!
