Hi y'all,
Just signed up as a member, but have been researching chicken questions on this site for a year. Made the rookie mistake of introducing two new chickens to my small flock without quarantining first. Ugh, so sad to lose my oldest bird, Mamma. Man, did I learn the hard way. Thanks to this site and all the great info, I think the others will be ok, I hope. I believe it's respiratory in nature. I actually diluted some amoxicillin and broke it up into four doses. It's the only thing that has perked them up. They seem to be on the mend. I tried VetRX, but that didn't seem to help. I bolstered their drinking water with vitamins and probiotics, but they wouldn't drink it!! Smart chickens! As soon as I put their regular water back with ACV, they drank. I'm posting this to hopefully help anyone else that this has happened to. I was unable to get Mamma to drink the antibiotic down, so maybe it's helping the others. Anyways, hopefully I won't lose anymore birds. I only had 7. Thanks for all the great advice on this website!! :)

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm sorry about the loss of Mamma. It's always sad to lose one of our flock. It sounds like you have taken the right steps in treating your birds. If you run into any more health problems, I would recommend posting them on our Emergencies, Diseases, Injuries, and Cures section at https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures. I hope all of you birds are on their way to a complete recovery. Good luck with your flock.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Hope the rest of your flock is OK, sorry you lose Mamma.
