Greetings!
I'm excited to have found this forum. I'd like to have 5 to 10 birds for eggs and meat so want to learn what I need before bringing chicks or pullets home. No idea at this time what the best breed/s are for me. I have an area of about 20' x 20' available so need to figure out a good hen-house. Will have to protect overhead from hawks as well as many other furry ground predators.
I'm in Western WA. I own a dog daycare and boarding kennel as of about 7 years ago. Have worked with horses and dogs most of my life. Was big into animal rescue but stepped away while getting business going. Looks like this site may have some great information so will peruse posts before asking questions. Am grateful for the resources and open to suggestions from those more knowledgeable.

Hello, and welcome! Good luck with your future flock! I hope that you will be able to keep the dog's away from them or they will become chicken dinner.
Yep, dogs are not allowed in the fully fenced garden yard. Chicken's yard and coop will be fully fenced in the garden yard. I'm more worried about hawks and other furry predators than my personal dogs and guest dogs.
