Hi All!! I finally made the leap and joined a forum (first ever forum btw). So I will answer some questions.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? -- Yes my husband and I are brand new to chickens, we have just over an acre and we first built a tiny coop from a farm store with 6 chicks. Well I lost a garden shed and turned that into a chicken coop to house 30. We started our journey in March of this year.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? --30
(3) What breeds do you have? -- goodness.. we have 6 midnight majesty's, 9 Rhode island reds, 12 barred rock, 2 olive eggers, and one Easter egger .
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? -- so far it is like having dogs and babies at the same time. Their personalities are so much fun and seeing the chicken raising culture is amazing and I am so happy to be part of it (chicken saddles anyone?)
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? -- gardening, lawn care, house projects, pranking my husband
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. -- currently I am in between jobs after being forced out of my healthcare job for a mandatory something. But that is ok I am ready for a new journey! We also have two dogs, one that treats the chickens like babies the other literally dogs not care about their existence one way or another even if they are pecking at him while standing on him.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
-- I have honestly known about BYC for a long long time.. I started researching chickens a year and a half before I got them.. but I joined now for a chicken emergency because google doesn't help and I need people.
And I would post photos but I can't choose!! They are all too cute!! But here is one nice photo. Nice to meet you all!
Now getting to my emergency... I know I know it looks like pasty butt.. but it is literally like attached to her... And it is soft not hard.. I am scared because she is so so small and tiny and how could she have a vent prolapse and even so this this thing is not that like it doesn't look like the pictures of prolapsed vents.
Currently she is soaking in just warm water. I at first thought prolapse vent because they was blood and a protrusion. I found her with her little mates but they stayed away from her. This whole thing literally happened in two hours. No signs of pecking or damage.
So thinking vent prolapse, try to push it back in, but she is so small. Anyways, we are on day 3 of this. Nothing is working no sugar, no prep h, no Epsom salts, she has liquid white poo, and yesterday I just got her eating some warmed up mushy food with some sugar in it.. but it isn't much and she doesn't do it on her own.
She sleeps all day. And sorry to mention but yes she is separated from the other littles. I am just at a loss now. What looked like a vent prolapse (which how because no changes in diet and she is nowhere close to laying yet) and now it looks like pasty butt.. please someone help and tell me what this is???
