I grew up in Croatia, Europe around chickens and I knew that one they I’d want a sustainable flock of my own.
I bought a ranch here in Texas in 2018 and started with 20 laying hens ranging from 6 to 8 months of age. My first girls were silver and copper laced Wyandottes, some RIR and your typical backyard mixes.
My girls free range in a fenced in 300’ x 100’ pasture, I have a sturdy 6’x12’ coop and an automatic door letting them in and out with the first and last sign of light.
After a year of enjoying life with chickens I learned a bit more, identified some chick breeds I like and introduced a gorgeous, yet mixed backyard rooster.
My goals for the futures are raising my own meat and egg chickens and I’ve just ordered 6 Bresse and 6 Barbezieux eggs to hatch.
I’ve fell in love with life with chickens, their amazing personalities and I’m enjoying every minute of it. My 20 girls and one roo are sharing life on the farm with pet goats, pet miniature cattle, 3 dogs and couple of life loving adults who enjoy all things nature, adventure and CrossFit.
I’m a member of BYC Facebook group but I decided to join this amazing forum here because you guys really know your stuff and I’m very eager to learn and grow alongside you.
