Make your life easier. Think about your hot summer weather. Site your coop and run in natural shade and choose heat tolerant chicken breeds.

Is there any part of your yard that floods when you get heavy rain? Yeah, don't put your coop and run there.

I'm in Dallas with similar weather to yours. Wish I had thought about these things before I started chicken keeping ten years ago. Live and learn.
