Hi All!
First time poster and new to the website here, though I’ve been looking at posts for quite a few weeks now. My long term girlfriend and I got our first chicks about 6 weeks ago now and they’ve been a great addition to our animal family! We also have two dogs (a german shepherd and a labrador) and two cats. Our backyard is a little over an acre with quite a bit of vegetation that unfortunately attracts quite a few deer. The tick problem in our backyard has skyrocketed this past year and we mainly got our chickens to help out with that as we are getting pretty tired of picking ticks off of our dogs every time they come in the house. Aside from that, we also love the idea of getting fresh eggs as much as everyone else!

Gonna post a picture of our chickens on here next...hoping that some kind experienced chicken owner could maybe tell us what breeds/sex they are??

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. They may eat ticks but, I believe the over-all champion tick eaters are Guineas. They are large and loud and unruly but, they do love ticks. Folks on here have commented that after getting guineas, they no longer have tick problems.

Welcome to BYC. Bravecto is a great product for tick control on dogs. It's a little pricey, but one dose lasts 3 months. You have to get it through a veterinarian.
