Hi Y'all! I'm so happy to be a part of this group!
I'm a new Chicken Mama as of April 2020. My flock is small (4 hens and 1 roo - 12 weeks old) although I began with 8 chicks that my friend incubated for me. Unfortunately, we had to cull 2 early on do to splayed leg that I couldn't fix and scissor beak. Then we lost one at about 6 weeks due to heat. It was always my weakest bird, and it just couldn't take the NC heat where we live.
We are a homeschool family of 2 sons living in the piedmont country of NC. My eldest is a rising senior, and my youngest is a rising 8th grader.
Our little flock is a barnyard mix of Ameraucanas/NH Reds/Leghorns incubated from my friend's flock of 18. We have spoiled "the babies" (as I lovingly call them), and they are very friendly as a result. This was my goal as I've wanted friendly chickens for over a decade, but our previous suburban neighborhood didn't allow livestock. We're about to incubate another 12 eggs (6 pure Lavender Ameraucanas & 6 Olive Eggers), and I'm excited as it's our first time incubating ourselves. Hopefully, this will go well!
I think that's about it. I've enjoyed following this forum for a few months now, and I cannot say enough how VERY helpful the posts have been for this new chicken mom! Thank you to everyone for sharing their expertise!!!
