Hi, hope im doing this right 😬🤞. My name is Simon and im from NSW Australia. I now sadly am down to 3 chickens from 5 ☹. They are pekin bantams and we have only had them for 4 months. They were 6 weeks old when we got them I beleive. One poor little guys that was my youngest sons, fluffy got trapped in an autofeeder box by the bigger chickens. The second maccapacca has just past from an unknown illness. She was a silkie. She was doing poorly, pale in the face and lethargic. We tried to worm her and spray her for mites, we kept her inside for 2 days to try and nurse her. I washed her in the sink, which she seemed to like 😔. I feel like im am failing my chooks ☹. So here i am.

On a more positive note i have 3 chookies left. Earl, Dixxie and Turbo. Earl is the big grey/blue rooster. Dixxie is well to be honest i dont know, the bigger black one and was supposed to be a hen but is now the size of Earl. Turbo is the little black one and she seems the smartest and most affectionate.

Hi Simon, welcome to BYC. I'm so sorry for your losses.
Does your coop have ventilation?

Hi Janiedoe, yes the coup does have ventilation. You cant see it from the perspective of the picture, but there are three window slides that have mouse/rat/pest mesh over them. One is on the backside of the coupe, one on the backside of the nesting section and a large one in the roof. I was going for a sort of passive cooling chimney type of effect where the rising hot air goes out the top drawing in cool air from the lower vents.

What an adorable set-up for your chickens! To me, it seems they should be protected and comfortable in their coop.

Sorry to hear about the ones you lost, but don't feel like you are failing your chickens. It happens to all of us. Chickens die. Sometimes, we know why, sometimes we don't. Even veterinarians sometimes can't figure it out, and sometimes accidents happen.

Best wishes with Earl, Dixxie and Turbo. It's good to meet you; welcome to BYC!
