Hello,
My name is Tracy. I am from Central Maine. Ticks and Lyme disease are a very real threat in Maine. Over the last 10 years tick populations have skyrocketed. I don't fully understand what lead to these evil creatures migrating here but I assume it's related to climate change or possibly some other change in the food chain of wild animals here in Maine. Regardless of the changes the fact of the matter is that our new reality includes ticks and the dangers associated with these animals. Five years ago I began to raise Guinea Fowl in an attempt to clear my property of ticks. Five years later I call the project a SUCCESS!!! So, I encourage everyone to join. I now have very few ticks on my property. It is key to have birds ready to eat and free range as soon as the snow melts. That means learning how to Free Range these birds and also how to "Over-Winter" them. I have Guinea keets available NOW. If you live in Central Maine and are interested in starting a new flock feel free to let me know!

Nice meeting you all!

Welcome to BackYard Chickens! We're very glad that you've decided to join us, and we hope that you enjoy your time on this site.
I haven't caught Lyme Disease, truth be told, but I do hate ticks. I'm glad that you're all right, and that your guineas have helped to cut the population down on your property.
I have three guineas, myself, and I've only seen two ticks this year.
Good luck, and good health!
